Bay Area Crisis Nursery
- Non-Profit Organization
Who Is Bay Area Crisis Nursery
In 1981, Sister Ann Weltz established the Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN), which remains the only crisis nursery in the Bay Area offering free, voluntary and confidential services. A crisis nursery is a place a family can temporarily place their young children in a time of personal crisis.
What We Do
We prevent the abuse and neglect of young children by providing support to families who are under stress or in crisis. We provide a warm, safe, loving and homelike environment for children of families in crisis. In the past 28 years there have been over 20,000 admissions. In 2009, there were 1,201 admissions.
How We Do It
Our nonprofit organization has two sites providing 24-hour residential care for children: the Nursery for children birth through age five, and the Dahlstrom House for children age six through eleven. Here children receive shelter, food, clothing, toys and tender care while parents develop a plan of action to resolve the crisis and / or alleviate the stress.
