    Soroptimist International of Diablo Vista Invites You to Their Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon, March 20, 2019
     
    CONCORD, Ca – March 5, 2019 – On Wednesday, March 20th, Soroptimist International of Diablo Vista (SIDV) is hosting their annual Women of Distinction luncheon, at Contra Costa Golf Club in Pleasant Hill.  Each year the group honors outstanding women in who have made a difference in our community and this year’s honorees are:
     
    Carin Kaplan: Woman of Distinction 
    Carin is a long-time resident of Clayton where she has been involved in the Clayton Historical Society, the Clayton Business and Community Association and the Garden Club.  She also has fostered service dogs in training to help alert people with diabetes.

    Mary Ann McCoy: Woman of Distinction
    Mary Ann is the Founder and Executive Director of Children of Grace.  The organization is dedicated to providing education, healthcare and mentoring to thousands of orphans and other children in Uganda impacted by extreme poverty and the AIDS epidemic.

    Alisa Rosillo: Woman of Distinction
    Alisa is the mother of two children who need wheelchairs.  She has been instrumental in the passage of a measure by the California State Legislature to ensure that people like her sons have access to places of amusement.

    Lisa Sweet: Woman of Distinction
    Lisa is the founder of Sweet Beginnings Family Resource Center. The diaper bank is the first of its kind in the East Bay and distributes more than 5,000 diapers per month to families in need.

    Sandra Wohali: Woman of Distinction
    Sandra is an administrator with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.  She is dedicated to serving the special needs of homeless and foster youth to ensure academic as well as social/emotional success.

    In addition, SIDV presents two grants to head of household women who are pursuing an education in order to create a better life for themselves and their families.  The Live Your Dream recipient is Mai and the Marie Broman Award recipient is Rita.

    Finally, the Violet Richardson Award is presented to a high school age girl who has made a contribution to her community through her volunteer work.   This year’s winner is Aava Farhadi.  She started a program to mentor middle school girls.

    The luncheon begins at 12 noon at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill and meal choices are Chicken Piccata or Vegetable Wellington.  All entrees include salad, seasonal vegetables, rolls and butter, iced tea or lemonade.
